Throughout their career, Kurt Wagner's Nashville collective Lambchop have demonstrated a great ability to write thoughtful, subversive, and memorable songs in the tradition of country and Americana music. Mr. M, which is their eleventh album, is immediately one of their most memorable. The lyrics, abstracted in characteristic style, convey a sadness, and desolation in their seemingly casual observations. Musically the band offer striking bluegrass and alt-country arrangements with a slightly nostalgic, albeit clearsighted, aspect.
