Zikra (meaning "memory" in Arabic) pays homage to the exquisite poetry and music of the Middle East. Led by singer and spoken-word poet Gabriela Georges, the band was inspired by a strong desire to connect to her cultural heritage and bring the rich musical tapestry to a wider audience.Zikra plays dynamic interpretations of classical Andalusian music, 70s Arabic and Persian pop, as well as folk songs. Woven in and between the music are translations of the poetic lyrics, creating an ethereal and captivating performance experience.
