Join us for the sixth consecutive SlutWalk Melbourne Rally!

In 2011 a Canadian police officer told a rape survivor that if she didn’t “dress like such a slut” she would not have been raped. In response to this statement the first SlutWalk was held in Toronto, Canada that year quickly spreading across the world with a clear message - end rape culture, victim-blaming and slut-shaming. This action sparked a world wide movement which saw SlutWalk Melbourne host its first rally in 2013. Join us on Saturday November 16th at The State Library of Victoria to stand in solidarity with survivors of abuse and peacefully march to Federation Square.

Our demands are simple - end slutshaming, end victim blaming and end rape culture. We stand together, strong, and reject a society that believes abusers over survivours. A system that attempts to penalise people who stand against the patriarchy. We reject a toxic culture that determines our worth based on the colour of our skin, our gender identity and how sexual we are. THERE IS NO DRESS CODE.

The State Library forecourt is wheelchair accessible and the rally speeches are Auslan interpreted. If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us and we can work together.

There will be marshals on hand to provide assistance, please see them if you have any questions or concerns. There will also be trigger officers who can help those experiencing trauma or need emotional assistance. Green ribbons will be made available to those who do not wish to be photographed by our SlutWalk photographer- please see a marshal on the day if you want one.

SlutWalk Melbourne is NOT POLITICALLY AFFILIATED. Please respect the space as one for survivors. No hawking of political brochures, merchandise, etc. You will be asked to leave. There are sign making workshops prior to the rally at a location in Thornbury on the 3rd and 10th of November. Poster making materials provided but feel free to bring your own. SlutWalk Melbourne is LGBTIQA+ inclusive and support full decriminalisation of sex work. If you subscribe to other beliefs that ostracise, marginalise or ridicule people, do not attend. If you attend in order to berate, punish or otherwise hurt people, you will be made to leave. You are not welcome.

Please email slutwalkmelbourne(@)gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer as a marshal or trigger officer. There will be a mandatory training session you must attend. Get in touch for more information. We want you to feel safe, so please get in touch if you have any concerns, suggestions or queries. This year's speakers will be announced in the coming days.

This event takes place on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge the elders, families and warriors, past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the traumatic effects of colonisation and the intergenerational trauma felt by First Nations People to this day. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.
