There is no containing RVG. The project of songwriter and vocalist Romy Vager is too vast to fit neatly into any box: a sentiment that snakes its way into her work often.
On Feral, the 2020 follow-up to the band's acclaimed debut album A Quality of Mercy, she steps in and out of herself, channelling the perspectives of people she admires, resents or struggles to relate to, and comes out the other side with vital dispatches for us all. As empathetic as it is anarchic, the raw and revealing punk of RVG offers glimpses of hope on good days and supplies a perfect soundtrack to the end times on all the others.
Ask anyone who caught them at Meredith Music Festival, SXSW or The Great Escape, or saw them on a number of bills across the US and UK in recent years, and you'll be reminded that an RVG live show is something to be cherished.
