James celebrates the music of 90’s New Jack Swing, RNB and Hip Hop. It was certainly a golden age and a style of music that defined an era for many people. Hip hop and New Jack Swing were revolutionary in its sound, it was fresh and young just like the audience. It spawned a number of hit records and kick started the careers of artists like Bobby Brown, Heavy D and Bell Biv Devoe to name a few. It in turn created a subculture, a movement. Melbournians were inspired by the culture not just the music, but also by the dance moves, our hairstyles, what we wore and then our own styles. It was an alternative to what was available at the time, rock music, and a sagging rnb scene that appealed to an older demographic.
If you’re enjoying the music at the moment, you have to come along and get a glimpse and deeper look at the songs played in this great period.
