Plastic Cheeses are hitting the Tote front bar on the afternoon of Sunday April 28th with a free gig to promote the release of their new single, “You Need A Break... Mate”.

Plastic Cheeses are a relatively new band concocted by members from Footscray, the Otways and the Surf Coast. Lethargic and cathartic - they write simple, catchy songs about the happenings and observations of everyday life with a distinct tinge of Australiana.

Utilising Plastic Cheeses’ usual wry, laconic writing style, new single “You Need A Break.. Mate” discusses how themes of distress, anxiety and existential dread can manifest itself into uncharacteristic behaviour full of anger and combativeness. Put simply by songwriter Paul, “This is a song about getting into fights with strangers on the internet”.

Joining Plastic Cheeses for a Sunday arvo full of free fun and jangling aplenty are new pals, Malibu Spacey.

Melbourne/Naarm band Malibu Spacey make music that’s all jangly 12 string acoustic guitars, intricate lead lines, three-part vocal harmonies and noodly bass grooves. The sound takes pieces of 70s country rock, folk and dreamy indie rock, fitting somewhere in the world of artists like Cass McCombs and Angel Olsen.

Pop into the front bar of The Tote from 3pm to join in on the fun.
