Opening Night is a weekly performance at Open Studio showcasing debut performances by Melbourne’s emerging young musicians.

Dylan Phillips Quartet

Featuring Henry Cameron on guitar, Vincent Barker on bass and Patrick Britton on Keys, the Dylan Phillips Quartet explores a combination of folk, jazz and rock, heavily inspired by the Pat Metheny Group, Bill Frisell and Bill Evans. Performing originals written by all members, the group explores texture, rhythm and tone to produce hearty and engaging music.

Theo Carbo Trio
Guitarist Theo Carbo’s new trio borrows repetoire from early jazz pioneers Sydney Bechet, King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton as well as taking influence from American free jazz musicians Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman. This version of the Theo Carbo Trio will feature Oscar Henfrey on drums and Hiroki Hoshino on bass. Theo Carbo has worked with many of Australia’s most important improvising musicians including Barney McAll, Andrea Keller, Nadje Noordhuis, Julien Wilson, Paul Williamson, Sam Anning, Gian Slater and many more.
