Nightstreamers is a weekly series of shows paving the way back for live music at Nighthawks. Each Tuesday evening a band will play live in the Nighthawks bandroom. The gigs will be streamed via the venue's youtube channel. We are delighted to welcome punters back to our little bandroom and these shows offer us an opportunity to revive the social connections that come with attending gigs.
Tickets are $5+bf. Capacity is currently limited to 25 by covid-safe restrictions and this show has now sold out https://www.trybooking.com/687724

Spending three years in an incubatory state, screensaver began as a trans Pacific collaboration between Christopher Stephenson (Spray Paint) and Krystal Maynard (Bad Vision/ex Polo) in 2016. Their exchange yielded a set of synth and guitar driven demos drawing from classic ‘77-’82 post punk such as early New Order and Siouxsie and the Banshees, as well as their contemporaries in the respective scenes of Austin and Melbourne in the 2010s.

By 2019 Christopher had long since relocated to Melbourne and the pair recruited Giles Fielke (ex Low Tide) and James Beck (Personal Touch/ex Rat Columns) on bass and drums respectively to form screensaver as it exists now. The band began playing locally in late 2019 and made a short run in the US opening shows for Wiccans and Timmy’s Organism.

In 2020 the band produced their debut single Strange Anxiety – a piece of synth forward dark-wave flexing some glam influenced guitar work. Its disparate vocals, pounding toms and weaving bass line create a cold tension that resolves into satisfying moments of warmth.
