You don't always remember who first turned you onto Mildlife, but you never forget the first time you heard the opening arpeggios of 'The Magnificent Moon'. That signature melding of jazz, psych, funk and groove is what cemented their 2018 debut, Phase, as one of the year's best and what makes their live shows so hotly watched.
Heading back into the studio for the follow-up, it would've been easy to do more of what was already working. They picked up Best Electronic Act at The Age Music Victoria Awards and were nominated for Best Album at the Worldwide FM Awards, after all. But with 2020's euphoric and spacious Automatic, Mildlife changed course, stepped into a deep funk pocket and—most importantly—set their eyes firmly on the dancefloor.
Releasing such a record in locked down Melbourne only made Mildlife dream of the first party they could bring it to. This is one for everyone who was right there with them, counting down the days.
