19th October 1993 Pearl Jam released their second studio album Vs. Following the success of their debut Ten, the band stakes were high.
The heavy touring schedule and pressure created the perfect storm that resulted in Vs. and Melbourne’s music scene is getting together to pay tribute to this record.
Although the music scene has changed dramatically in the past 25 years, the strong influence Pearl Jam have on the current music scene is still apparent.
On the date the record was released, 19th October, members of The Ugly Kings, Busy Kingdom, Winter Moon, Honeybone, Cash and The Reveries will band together to play the record in it’s entirety to celebrate it’s release and the songs and sounds that have influenced generation of rock bands at the iconic Cherry Bar, AC/DC Lane, Melbourne.
Opening the night is local rock bands Wasted Sun and Honeybone.
With hits like “Animal”, “Daughter”, “Dissident” and more, the record features some incredible musicianship and some of the best drumming captured on tape in the ‘90’s alt-rock pantheon, ‘VS’ sees Eddie Vedder break out some of his most memorable lyrics and melodies.
A chart topping success (despite it’s deliberately non-commercial intentions and attitudes) and one of the most important and vital albums of the 90’s, VS is a tour de force in songwriting and rock and roll exploration.
Join a studded cast of local Melbourne talent, including Russell Clark of ‘The Ugly Kings’, Milly Moon from ‘Winter Moon’, Cassandra McCawley of ‘Cash’ and more, as they charge through the album track by track, and finish off the night with a selection of Pearl Jam favourites.
With sets of original music by Wasted Sun & Honeybone to kick off the night, this is one show not to be missed!
