Growing up on the north coast of NSW, Matilda was engulfed by surf rock, folk, soul, and 80s ballads under the influence of her parents. Combining hard-edged realism and home truths, Matilda doesn’t shy away from telling a story -- whether it’s about death, drugs, heartbreak, or love.
Backed by a four-piece band, there's no frills, and there doesn’t need to be; the vulnerability Matilda brings in the music and lyrics is enough. Moving between twangy country-tinged folk music and distorted rock and roll, Matilda leads the band, guitar in arm.
During 2020’s covid-induced lockdown, Matilda was gifted an old beat-up Yamaha acoustic guitar. Based on poetry deciphered from stacks of old notebooks and the few chords she knew at the time, Holy Water was born. Matilda’s soft heart and sharp wit make for a captivating debut EP worthy of an artist well beyond her years.
