Helen Catanchin is a highly expressive and gifted jazz/contemporary singer, songwriter and instrumentalist based in Melbourne, with over ten years performing and recording experience. With a warm, distinctive tone, and the ability to powerfully draw the listener into the story of each and every song, Helen has performed as lead vocalist with her jazz band at festivals and venues the likes of the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival, Eltham Town Jazz & Blues Festival, Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, Paris Cat Jazz Club and Bird’s Basement. She has also performed live with acclaimed international and local artists, including Mavis Staples, Joss Stone, Rickie Lee Jones, John Abercrombie, Barney McAll, Gian Slater, The Black Arm Band and Lior, in a variety of contexts and events.

Helen is involved in a wide range of other musical projects, including leading her Simon & Garfunkel band Feelin’ Groovy, featuring fellow jazz vocalist Clancye Milne and an all-star cast of Melbourne jazz instrumentalists. Helen also performs regularly as part of unique duo Big Guitar, Little Guitar, singing and playing guitar and ukulele and covering an eclectic and quirky range of repertoire, alongside master double bassist Philip Rex. She has released two single releases to date under her new solo indie/pop/electronica moniker Katankin, and also has a 2015 EP release by her original contemporary jazz/pop/folk band lena. Helen is one of the founding members of the groundbreaking Melbourne a capella ensemble Invenio, and features on the group’s debut album “Gone, Without Saying”. Helen’s diverse and prestigious performance background is testament to her great versatility and skill as a vocalist
