ISOL-AID #25 IS A GAME CHANGER

Featuring (in alphabetical order):

BEN WOODS (NZ), BUMPY, FRANCIS TAIT (QUALITY USED CARS), ISADORA LAURITZ, JIM NOTHING (NZ), MAYA VICE, MOTTE (NZ), PGX (NZ), STAV., UNCLE QUENTIN (NZ), WAARI, WOMB (NZ) and ZERO COOL (NZ)

Get off words with friends and word up your friends, it’s ISOL-AID 25!! We are super excited because this week we are partnering with NZ crew Melted Ice Cream, a record label and music collective based in and around Christchurch, New Zealand. It really will be a triple word score this week because the line up is a RIPPER!

Starting off the kiwi chapter of our show this week is WOMB (NZ) - an indie-folk trio of siblings who combine spectrally layered vocals with warm, floating dreamscape sounds. Continuing the zone out will be JIM NOTHING (NZ) who brings fuzz pop weirdo rock straight from Christchurch to Channel Isol!

Described as “Antipodean Gothic”, BEN WOODS (NZ) continues the journey. Sometimes alt-pop, sometimes punk, Ben Woods’s gloomy cynicism is stirred into the indie-pop, upbeat pot to produce delicious gothic grunge. We’re excited about this one.

PGX (NZ) started as a bunch of flatmates who then became bandmates over glasses of wine, dissecting melodies and discussions. The band don’t channel any particular sonic sound - PGX are all-encompassing and learning as they go. Cerebral lo-fi that celebrates earnestness - ooh!

MOTTE (NZ) comes through next with witchy modern pop via violin and ZERO COOL (NZ) pace it gently with their brand of melodic jangle-pop, replete with witty and heartfelt lyrics.

Rounding out the New Zealand portion of this week, “sampledelic” UNCLE QUENTIN (NZ) (Tim Moore of Von Klap) is the irreverent beat-groove freak out we’ve been waiting for. Sketches and snatches of sound to shake your buns to.

We trip back home ready to celebrate proud Noongar woman BUMPY’s Single launch. BUMPY is a member of soul/groove outfit ‘Squid Nebula’ but her solo incantation sees her thematically uncovering her truths as a First Nations artist, layering lush melodies and delivering them hypnotically.

To kick off the celebrations, the soulful and honest STAV. combines spoken word, singing and jazz-soul-funk to speak on her experiences of migration. FRANCIS TAIT (QUALITY USED CARS) tells stories about being human and 21st century life through wordy folk.

MAYA VICE has a decade of performing under her belt even though she is only 26! Maya’s music is a melting pot of styles and influences from across the globe and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us.

ISADORA LAURITZ is a Melbourne-based vocalist who moves across genres to bring a unique sound all of her own to ISOL-AID. WAARI glides between reggae, R&B and soul. Waari is a place for the music of Warrigo Tyrrell. A celebration of the beauty of life, strength through light and dark and the rising up of his people.

We end the proceedings with Bumpy’s performance and goodness gracious, it’s gonna be WAY more exciting than a game of Scrabble!
