From the team behind the Melbourne Music Bus Tour which has been operating from the Arts Centre Melbourne and the Australian Music Vault, we invite you to jump on board a special regional edition Geelong Music Bus Tour, with six guided tours scheduled to take place this year as part of Geelong’s Surrounds Sounds.

Relevant, irreverent, educational and entertaining, the tour will include a broad and diverse range of Geelong sites including venues and locations associated with Christina Amphlett, Weddings Parties Anything, Little River Band, Goanna, Magic Dirt, Jet, Bored!, Sunset Strip, Warped, Alice Ivy, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs, The Sweethearts, The Living Eyes, The Dirty Lovers and the Poppin’ Mommas. There will also be some surprise stop-offs along the way to pick up announced guests.

Running for approximately ninety minutes with one scheduled stop in Little Malop Street, the Geelong Music Bus Tour departs from out the front of Geelong’s Barwon Club and will travel across Geelong where the stories shared on the bus, stay on the bus, before returning to its point of departure.

Ticket holders will get to visit current venues, iconic laneways, important indigenous music spots, recording studios, record stores, high schools, skate parks, music video locations and places which have inspired teenagers to form a band.

Leading the tour will musicologist Bruce Milne, a lifetime resident of Victoria who has been involved with Triple R since its fledgling years, founded the iconic independent record store and label Au-go-go Records (who signed Magic Dirt in 1994), managed artists, worked at EMI in A&R and now co-owns Greville Records. Bruce introduced rock bar culture to Melbourne, and was licensee of one of Melbourne’s archetypal live music venues, The Tote Hotel as documented in the film ‘Persecution Blues’.

Bruce Milne says of the tour, “There’s musical history on every street and corner. There’s colourful (sometimes outrageous) tales too. I have stories to tell but I love to hear stories from other people as well. Get on the bus and let’s explore and share- and have some fun.”

Each bus tour will feature a very special guest who grew up in Geelong to share their personal stories on the bus. April 23 Mick Thomas (Weddings Parties Anything), Adalita on April 30 and Maree Robertson who recently published the 678 page “This Was Geelong” book celebrating the legacy surrounding the late Dave Thomas from Bored! on May 7.

The Geelong Music Bus Tour, alongside the Australian Music Vault, builds on Victoria’s reputation as a cultural destination by exploring and celebrating its unique music history. There are music city tours on offer in cities such as London, New York, Seattle, Liverpool and Los Angeles, now Geelong joins this list along with Melbourne.
