Francesca Remigi is a multi-faceted drummer, improviser and composer from Bergamo, Italy, who has made a name for herself in New York’s avant-garde jazz scene, collaborating with heavyweights including George Garzone, Kris Davis and Steve Lehman.
Together with Italian bass clarinettist Federico Calcagno and joined by some of Melbourne’s most accomplished young improvisers, Remigi will present her project Archipélagos.
Characterised by its unique aesthetic, Archipélagos features a refined blend of sounds inspired by a spectrum of genres including modern jazz, contemporary classical music, progressive rock, Indian Carnatic music, electronic music and free jazz. Effortlessly weaving these varied influences together, the Archipélagos project represents the meeting point of different cultures and musical heritages.
Personnel:
Francesca Remigi – drums
Niran Dasika – trumpet
Federico Calcagno – bass clarinet
Andrew Saragossi – tenor saxophone
Helen Svoboda – double bass
