Formed in the innocent, carefree land of pre-lockdown 2020 Melbourne, Filthy Hart is the raw post-punk outlet of Melbourne-based musician Hugo Schulz. Their debut eponymous EP was recorded as a live band between lockdowns; it’s visceral and honest, ascerbic and cynical, both a window into the soul and a black mirror reflecting the flaws of a broken world. Combining the sharp edges and angular guitar work of the Birthday Party, the brooding introspection of King Krule, and the snarling, blues-punk intensity of early Drones, Filthy Hart is a six-piece auditory onslaught of animalistic energy balanced with tight, streetwise musicianship, honed by a rigorous gigging schedule including a headline set to a packed Brunswick Artist Bar and a support slot for Melbourne funk phenomenon Sex on Toast.
