Scoot over, sink in and fling your keys in the bowl because DJ Melis has been collecting '70s party vinyl from around the globe to share with you and yours. As a pianist she can’t resist a funky organ, as a good times gal, can’t pass up a round or two of whatever Marcos Valle’s having. With the sleaze to please, she likes mixing up a jelly salad of steamy music, muzak and the suss bits in between. She’s still learning the ropes, but her diverse digs will having you sailing to 5:00 somewhere.
Hopefully your poison is a cocktail of Brazilian, soul, jazz, Caribbean, funk, disco, jungle boogie and calypso, cause it’s a heady mix of exotica vibes and brass-heavy classics that’ll have you swapping stares, spreading the beaded curtains and calling a happy hour special.
Thanks to her local record stores, DJ Melis is ready to spin some jazz funk regulars and serve some silly sounding newcomers. Hold the phone as she puts the ham in Hammond and the lift in elevator jazz. Cruising from tequila sunrise to vodka sunset, shake, bump and groove with this Dallas-born, Brunswick-based vinyl trash collector and treasure hunter.
