Melbourne post-punk pioneer David Chesworth launches the Chapter Music reissue of his 1981 percussive art-funk album Layer On Layer. The follow-up to 1979 minimal synth classic 50 Synthesizer Greats (re-released by Chapter in 2017), Layer On Layer uses traditional and non-traditional instruments (like telephone books, boxes and car parts) to create a unique sound world, driven by propulsive rhythms but emphasizing chance and playfulness. David’s records and productions through the 70s and 80s have become hugely sought-after collectors’ items and DJ holy grails, across his solo work and projects Essendon Airport, Whadya Want, Chocolate Grinders and others. He is now a renowned contemporary composer and sound artist, commissioned to create a sound installation for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and represented in the 2015 Venice Biennale with partner Sonia Leber. For Layer On Layer, David will perform live on synths and toy guitar, with his Essendon Airport bandmate Paul Fletcher on drums.
