Pals of beloved stalwart of the Australian underground music scene Stewart Cunningham have rallied to host a benefit at Tote Hotel on Friday 14th September to help Stewy who is facing a serious cancer battle. The Tote is a venue he performed regularly at over his three-decade musical career in bands such as the Proton Energy Pills, Brother Brick, The Yes Men, Asteroid B-612, Challenger 7 and for the last 12 years, Leadfinger. Stewart Cunningham is one of Australia’s most talented indie guitarist and respected musicians both on and off the stage.
Stewy’s approach to rock n’ roll has won him many fans both locally and overseas, and provided what many pundits attest to being some of the greatest rock tunes to come from Down Under. Songs such as See You Tonight, Rock n’ Roll Sound, Fourteen, Edge a Bit Closer and Chokito Bar, may not be chart toppers, but they hold up their own compared to the greats.
With a GoFundMe in his name already taking place, benefit gigs in both Sydney and Melbourne will ease what’s become a stressful financial situation for Stewy and family. His rock and roll brothers and sisters are only too happy to step up to the plate & put together a benefit to reflect the great man’s lust for music, with all proceeds going direct to his partner and two daughters to alleviate some of the burden.
