Claps are reuniting with their friends Cofi at The Penny Black for a huge Saturday night of Acid-Jazz, Broken Beat, Neo Soul, Improvised dance music!

\\\CLAPS///

Claps are a firebrand of cosmic jazz energy, agitators of tradition and hotheaded jazz punks; an instrumental quintet that blends house, broken beat and drum and bass rhythms with unhinged jazz improvisation to create a dark and immersive kaleidoscopic dance music experience. With members from The Rookies, Honey and Z.F.E.X. and an uncompromising search for a distinct and immersive sound, Claps pushes listeners and dancers out of their comfort zone and into heightened states of bodily perception.

True to their namesake, Claps’ music is tight, striking and hard-edged, yet identifiably human. With influences ranging from Herbie Hancock’s psychedelic excursions into electronic improvisation in the 1970s, to the hard-edged UK garage of the Streets, and modern electronic producers like Christoph De Babalon and Roza Terenzi, Claps presents an aesthetic vision that challenges the possibilities of live dance music through the twisted lens of jazz.

Debuting at Strawberry Fields festival in 2018, Claps have performed around Melbourne to critical acclaim from fans and peers. In April 2019 they recorded their debut singles with two time Emmy award winning and Bafta nominated producer/mixing engineer Guus Hoevenaars at Melbourne’s Newmarket Studios. They are currently writing and producing their debut LP.

\\COFI//

Cofi is a 6-piece outfit, set on a mission to fuse neo-soul, improvised dance and all things groove.

Formed in the distant land of high school, the group have grown alongside the beloved Melbourne scene, highlighted by a fiery set at Strawberry Fields 2017 and two sold out belters at the Gaso.

After a few months tucked away to fine-tune their sound, Cofi got themselves into a studio and are about to embark on a wave of shows, to promote their slick new single 'Trinity'.

2019 will be the most exciting time to catch these locals set sail and reach new heights.
