CHARLIE NEEDS BRACES
The latest music project Charlie Needs Braces, comes from Melbourne musician Charlie Woods. Charlie is a proud GuriNgai woman, a direct descendant of Bungaree and Matora. The lands running from the central coast of NSW along the mouth of the Hawkesbury river and into Northern Sydney.
Having played on stage with bands such as Teskey Brothers ,The Seven Ups, Ogopogo, WVR BABY, TEK TEK Ensemble, Charlie is venturing out on her own to launch the solo project - Charlie Needs Braces.
Drawing on her own personal experiences Charlie has developed an album that is influenced by her new braces. She also draws on the experience of discovering and learning about her Aboriginal heritage.
Charlie is currently working on an album and will be releasing videos and singles in the coming months as part of her first solo EP.
SYNTHOTRONICA
Synthotronica is the alter-ego of award-winning artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Ania Reynolds, who has performed her original music across five continents, been the Musical Director for the likes of Circus Oz and Yothu Yindi and the Treaty Project, shared a saxophone solo duet with Femi Kuti and played baritone sax hanging upside down at the National Theatre in London. Her live performance has been described as a ‘stunning display of musicality’ (Nicole Precel, SMH 2019). Ania’s rich and diverse career as a composer and musician has seen her score over 50 theatre works, develop her own award-winning audiovisual practice, attend international artist residencies and perform in bands in genres ranging from Afrobeat to reggae to surf rock to electronica. These influences and experience come together in her all-original solo act Synthotronica, where she performs a repertoire of high energy upbeat electronic compositions featuring Afrobeat, glitch hop, dub reggae, Steampunk swing, Cumbia and more with live baritone sax and triangle.

We want to keep live music alive, accessible and affordable for all! All musicians playing at our PAYF events are paid full, guaranteed fees, no matter what donations are made on the night. Contributions go towards our overall costs of putting on PAYF events and will help us keep these special live music events alive at Open Studio!
