Saluting the great pianists/composers from Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines to Keith Jarrett. Jazz is a litany of great pianists Fats Waller and Earl Hines in the thirties, Duke Ellington in the forties and fifties, Les McCann and Bobby Timmins in the sixties. The big three, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul and Chick Corea in the seventies as well as a few other surprises. Come on this musical journey with legendary pianist Bob Sedergreen whose career now spans sixty years of hard driving jazz of all genres.

Joining Bob for this musical tour will be bassist, Jon Chidgey and drummer Gordon Pendleton. Their empathy will be apparent to all.

In Our Own Words is a new collaborative project by emerging vocalist/guitarist Erica Bramham, award winning pianist Nathan Liow, and National Jazz Awards bass semi-finalist Adam Spiegl. The trio are joined by one of Melbourne’s most in-demand drummers, Justin Olsson, for a series of shows exploring the music of some of the greatest singer-songwriters of the 20th century. With new arrangements drawing from jazz, pop and folk traditions the songs of these iconic artists are given a fresh voice that is at once familiar and surprising.

The music of Leonard Cohen is vast and universal. Not bound by genre, time or place his songs lend themselves to endless reinterpretation and re-imagination. With a poet’s hand he paints words that dig deep, question, soften and smother, and his music is as sophisticated as it is simple. His songs have been recorded by some of the world’s greatest musicians including Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, Rufus Wainwright, Madeleine Peyroux and Tori Amos.

The quartet bring their own stories and influences to their arrangements of Cohen’s music, making this a show not to be missed for both long time fans and newcomers to Cohen's repertoire.
