Backyard Stories is born from a passion for storytelling. It is an event which creates a space for both established and novice storytellers to respond to a pre-selected prompt in the form of a short story. This is then performed in front of an engaging crowd, in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

The stories are as relatable as they are unique - and range from the funny and dramatic to the heartfelt and intimate. Backyard Stories is a platform to share, listen and engage. Anyone and everyone is invited - to write, perform, attend or listen. From our origins in 2019, squeezing friends into a Melbourne backyard, surviving a pandemic through podcast format, Backyard Stories has evolved.

After shows in 2022 around New York City, Amsterdam and London, Backyard Stories is back in Melbourne and has returned home to the Brunswick Artists Bar.
