Join us for a relaxing afternoon of acoustic music at the wonderful Open Studio. The sonic palette of Aurora Lumina combines the passion of Arabic modes with the shifting moods of the Western classical canon. If one imagines the compositional odysseys of John Zorn (featured in Jenny Game’s complex, through composed and rhythmically shifting pieces) crossed with the pulsating freedom of Ornette Coleman’s best ensembles (transmitted via Poul Grage’s evanescent percussion work and Michael Currie’s freely melodic basslines) and the lyricism of the Modern Jazz Quartet (evident in Peter Neville’s virtuosic lines on the vibes) then one has some idea of the flavour of an Aurora Lumina performance.
