Allysha Joy and Crown Ruler present a series of multidisciplinary art experiences at Geddes Lane Ballroom over the month of August, 2019. To celebrate her triumphant return home after an extensive tour of Europe, both solo and with the 30/70 Collective, Allysha will stage four unique events over Thursdays in August, featuring emerging artists from around the country operating within the jazz, soul, and spoken word forms.
Whether performing solo on Fender Rhodes or accompanied by her band, Allysha’s steady groove, husky vocal tone and unique style of writing emanates truth and talent, and illuminates her powerful gift of song. Her sound is dynamic and raw, real and complex, as she was raised on jazz, soul, hip hop and RnB, later to be drenched in Melbourne’s soul overtone.
Allysha’s debut solo LP Acadie : Raw was released in 2018 on UK-based jazz imprint Gondwana Records, and she has been featured on the recently announced Gilles Peterson / Brownswood Recordings compilation Sunny Side Up. This event series takes place on the sovereign land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation.
