Black Lives Matter
Artist, organiser and Fullbright scholar Patrisse Cullors joins Breakfasters on the phone to discuss the Black Lives Matter movement. Patrisse was one of the founders of the movement, and is in Australia to receive the Sydney Peace Prize on its behalf. Black Lives Matter started in 2013 in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman after he shot Trayvon Martin in Florida in 2012. Since 2013 the movement has gained strength and is now known internationally and has 40 chapters around the world. Patrisse also discusses her performance art, and why art is such an important aspect for her to spread the messages that are central to the movement.
