Host Vanessa Morris talks to Adam Leng, the Yugambeh-based artist behind solo shoegaze project Swoon. “The [debut] EP [Rainbirds] all revolved around a time when I was reconnecting to my Aboriginal heritage,” Adam explains. They discuss how the release of Rainbirds led to Adam connecting with other First Nations artists, the evolution of Adam’s songwriting, starting out in the hardcore/punk scene, and more. Swoon’s new single, “Safeguard”, takes a look at “the different types of assimilation practice that have happened throughout the generations of [Adam’s] family”. “Safeguard” will appear on a five-song EP to be accompanied by a short film that “flows through all of the songs”.
