The Rap: Reimagining the Lucky Country with Paola Balla

Australia is known as the lucky country, but who exactly is it lucky for? Wemba-Wemba and Gunditjmara woman and artist, curator and PhD candidate Paola Balla stops by the Rap to chat about her latest exhibition Lucky? on at the Bundoora Homestead. Focused on the gold rush, the exhibition explores ideas of wealth, Australian identity and how people have had to negotiate being othered in this country. Paula’s work highlights her mother’s Indigenous and Chinese heritage and celebrates her resilience. Paola has also worked on the Blak Brow edition of The Lifted Brow, an edition created entirely by independently by a collective of First Nations writers, artists and contributors.
