The Mission: How COVID-19 Is Highlighting Racism Against Indigenous Communities
Host Daniel James is joined by Tanya Schramm, a Palawa woman living in Hobart who is a Board Member of the Australia Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA), working as a GP, and lecturing at UTAS. She calls in to discuss AIDA’s recent report, which stated the secondary social impacts that COVID-19 is having on Australia’s Indigenous communities. Tanya reflects on the warnings issued in the report and explains why divisions that undergird our social landscapes become inflamed during times of pandemic and distress, and how our current time of crisis is exacerbating racism towards Australia’s Indigenous communities.
