You Are Spring!, the new fourth album for Tasha, is an album attuned to the turning of the seasons.

It opens with a tune titled Spring —in which Tasha sings in harmony with L'Rain and Jamila Woods— and features a song called Summer at its centre. Its lyrics are filled with plants, weather, bodies of water.

In conversation on The International Pop Underground with Anthony Carew, Tasha reveals that the seasonal inspiration for the album came from a relocation.

She had left Chicago, where she was born and raised, for New York City, which made her especially alive to her surroundings. The move was for a dream gig: performing in Illinoise, the Broadway musical built around the music of Sufjan Stevens.

"It was a very fantasy-amazing reason to have a runway to being in New York," says Tasha.

"I did musical theatre when I was a teenager and when I was in college, so it was not a totally foreign thing for me. I mean, my role in this show was really as a musician. I wasn't acting per se.

"I got to be in this world of theatre and dance, but doing what I like to do, which is play indie music. And play music that is so meaningful to me. I did learn to play guitar learning Sufjan Stevens songs. He's very much a part of my musical lineage. So, it was a really perfect combination."
