The Grapevine: Historian Clare Wright Sheds New Light On Mining In Australia

Clare Wright is a La Trobe University history professor and author whose latest Griffith Review essay – “Masters of the Future or Heirs of the Past?” – explores the history of mining in Australia with a critical focus on the way that it has obscured and displaced the practices and interests of First Nations peoples. In this interview, Clare re-stakes the timeline of mining in Australia, using certain flash-points in Australia’s past to reveal mining’s sustained destruction of Indigenous land.
