The Golden Age Of Piracy: The Songs That Most Influenced Amyl & The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor
Tristen Harris returns with his first show of 2022 – and it’s a corker. Amy Taylor of Amyl & the Sniffers joins the show to share her long-time-coming Formative Five – five songs that have either influenced her songwriting or have inspired her in some way.
As you can imagine with Amy, she selects an energetic and eclectic mix, spanning Sonic Youth to Azealia Banks. “[Sonic Youth’s 'Black Candy'] is one of the first songs I heard as a teenager – a tough and rough kinda song with female vocals,” Amy explains. “I’d been listening to a lot of pub rock, like The Radiators and The Angels, as that’s what my family listened to.
“I had some friends listening to Sonic Youth and I remember thinking, That’s so sick that there’s a female absolutely screeching and she doesn’t have vocal skills or anything,' and it’s always stuck with me.”
