The Glasshouse: Decolonising Feminism With Dr Crystal McKinnon

Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 To Now is an upcoming exhibition at The National Gallery Of Australia (NGA), showcasing work from those who identify as women. Amangu Yamaji woman Dr Crystal McKinnon joins Beth, ahead of the NGA’s Annual Lecture titled ‘Decolonise Your Feminism’ which opens the exhibition, to discuss unpacking ideas and structures.

The academic and researcher explains that decolonisation is more than just “an acknowledgement or recognising that something is taking place”, it’s about working towards “repatriation of lands and life”. Crystal says feminism, or “any of the other ‘isms’”, should be decolonising, and that while she’s seen greater awareness of things like “notions of sovereignty”, people should be considering their everyday actions and looking at what is already happening on the ground.
