Stylin’: JAB On Changing Perceptions On Percussion

From his time spent as a percussionist touring with the likes of Theo Parrish, Floating Points and Chance the Rapper, Junior Alli-Balogun was inspired to create the kind of club-ready jazz music he was catching at afterparties and clubs around the world. Now releasing music under the moniker JAB, Junior calls into Stylin’ to chat about his forthcoming project “Currents”. The EP was created as a way to showcase percussion-dominated music away from the reductive labels of “world music”, and mixes jazz-inflected vibraphone, emotive string arrangements and danceable rhythms in emotive and innovative ways.
