SmartArts: Securing The Future Of The Nicholas Building

Located on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Lane, the Nicholas Building has been one of Melbourne’s foremost creative and artistic hubs for almost a century. With most of the artistic tenants on month-to-month leases, the Nicholas Building Association is leading a push to secure the future of the creative tenants housed within the building. Association spokesperson Dario Vacirca chats to SmartArts about their proposal, which would not only guarantee the building remains an accessible space for artists but would also open it up to the public, with dedicated spaces for community events and festivals. With most of the funding in place, the association is now lobbying the Government ahead of the state election for the remaining funds to ensure the beloved building continues to service the Melbourne artistic communities for another century.
