SmartArts: Anne-Louise Sarks on Her Directorial Debut With Bernhardt/Hamlet
Melbourne Theatre Company’s Artistic Director & Co-CEO Anne-Louise Sarks joins Richard Watts to chat about her directorial debut Bernhardt/Hamlet. This marks the first project she has been involved in as an Artistic Director.
Anne-Louise talks about her passion for directing a comedy to open up the season and wanting to offer audiences a witty, smart and fun production. Inspired by real events and set in 1899, Bernhardt/Hamlet focuses on a progressive actress with a vision for change, something that Anne-Louise was able to resonate with, stating that it is “important to embrace new voices and new perspectives, making theater more accessible for everyone”.
Bernhardt/Hamlet has been described as “an entertaining, intellectually stimulating pleasure” and is currently running until the 15th of April at the Southbank Theatre.
