Sharing with Caution: Thinking Twice Before Posting Online without Your Child’s Permission

Cassandra Seery, Associate Lecturer at Deakin Law and mother of two young children, breaks down her recent submission to the UN outlining a child’s right to consent online. Stemming from her own experience of being a new mother, Cassandra began to question the repercussions of posting those precious moments online saying, ‘However well intentioned we are, we’re not thinking about the consequences that posting information about our children online will have for them both now and in the future when they become adults.’

In this interview, Cassandra explores the responsibility of social media giants such as Facebook to monitor child content and challenges parents to join in on the conversation about consent and sharing information in the digital space.
