New and Groovy: A Virtual Launch For Award-Winning Local Jazz Ensemble Five Below

Andrea Keller is a pianist, composer and bandleader of the award-winning ensemble Five Below. The band is a big rhythm section comprising of piano, guitar, drums and two basses, which bring Andrea’s compositions to life. Andrea joins New and Groovy to chat about their new album Life is Brut[if]al. The record features Andrea’s songs, plus two saxophone tracks and a special spoken word piece performed by her son. Andrea and the group have had a long-running residency at the Jazz Lab in Brunswick, but this was put on hold over the lockdown period. They were able to have their first performance back this week to an audience of 20 people.

The Life is Brut[if]al album launch will be held online as part of the virtual Melbourne International Jazz Festival: These Digital Times. The launch will be streamed live and free on YouTube as part of the festival.
