Mystifying Melbourne: The Wild World Of The Bat With Robert Bender

Ever worried about walking around on a warm summer’s night when all of a sudden a small, black, winged creature comes barrelling into your hair, entangling itself and sending you both into a panicked frenzy? Microbat aficionado Robert Bender joins Mystifying Melbourne to paint a beautifully detailed picture of these oft-misunderstood fanged creatures. As co-founder of the hugely successful Melbourne Bat Box Project, Robert explains how important bat boxes have become for protecting bats against wet weather and birds like magpies and ravens.

Some may see them as creepy and vampiric, but Robert assures listeners that bats are peaceful. Exploring the intricacies of their reproductive systems, the impacts of global warming on their movements and how bats are cotton-farmers best friends, Robert transforms the image of the bat.
