Max Headroom: Steve Grimwade and Alicia Sometimes ‘Get Their Tree On’ for WOMADelaide

WOMADelaide is all about the music, but what makes it truly special is its location amidst the lush surrounds of Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens. Alicia Sometimes and Steve Grimwade survey the treetops and delve into the rich soils that provide the stage for each year’s WOMADelaide festival. They chat to Living Collections curator John Sandham who wonders, ‘How can anyone not love plants?’ as he describes the Kara, Moreton Bay figs and Bunya pines that make the festival setting so special. They then chat to the delightfully named Dr Brian Pickles about all things fungi and the lovely symbiosis they form with trees. They’re joined then by evolutionary ecologist Dr Monica Gagliano who is researching the ways that plants actually learn.

Alicia and Steve also reflect on their festival highlights from years gone by and the great but, perhaps lesser known acts to look out for at this year’s gathering.
