Max Headroom: ‘I’m Gonna Screw the World Up’: Discover the Brilliance of DJ Screw
Tom Martin Takes Us On A Musical Tour Featuring Hip-Hop Artist, DJ Screw
Robert Earl Davis Jr., better known by his stage name DJ Screw, made a huge impact in his relatively short life (he passed away in 2000 aged just 29). Credited as the innovator of the ‘chopped and screwed’ genre in Southern hip-hop, DJ Screw made hundreds of mixes on tapes using analogue turntables and mics, and in the words of this episode’s host Tom Martin, in the process, built a large following, community and name for himself.
Tom explores DJ Screw’s huge back-catalogue directly through his music and this hour of radio perfectly compliments Tom’s recently published article on 3RRR’s website, ‘Deeper Read: How DJ Screw Changed the Sound of Hip Hop’.
