Madelaine Lucas Joins Backstory

We all tell ourselves stories. Madelaine Lucas, winner of the 2018 Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize, is particularly interested in these stories and how they help us to fill in the blanks of fragmented or misinterpreted memories. She joins Backstory to chat about her winning piece Ruins, which explores the idea of memory, misinterpreted experiences and the ways we interact with our landscape. Living in New York to complete her masters, she’s channelled her feelings of homesickness to explore how the Australian landscape can shape who we are.
