‘I’ve Seen that Face Before’: Iconic Aussie Actor/Director David Field Opens up about His Quietly Successful Career
David Field’s name might not be as instantly recognisable as say Eric Bana or Heath Ledger, but his face will be familiar to anyone who’s been watching Australian films over the last 30 years. First coming to prominence playing Wenzil in cult classic Ghosts… of the Civil Dead, David has since gone on to play roles in films such as Chopper, Mystery Road and The Night We Called it a Day, to name just a few. In 2009, he turned his talents towards directing and The Combination caused a stir on its release. This year, David has again teamed up with actor George Basha, who played John Morkos in the original film, and pops in at the beginning of the interview, to make The Combination Redemption.
In this Max Headroom special, David and Triple R resident cinephile Lisa Kovacevic chat about type-casting, the lack of allure of a Hollywood career, the joys of being grounded in the real world with real people and the power that comes from allowing yourself, through humility, to become ‘the other’. The Combination Redemption is in cinemas now.
