Indigenuity: Odee Welsh on Learning Language Through Maran Giirr
Yuwaalaraay/Gamilaraay man Odee Welsh joins Indigenuity to discuss Maran Giirr, a growing language program offering beginner and advanced classes alongside immersive learning on Country.
Following generations of language work within his family, Odee reflects on growing up around Gamilaraay and Yuwaalaraay, and on the knowledge carried through his grandfather, father and the old people before them.
Looking toward future generations, Krystal and Odee discuss the responsibility of ensuring they inherit more than words on a page. “Language revival isn’t a maybe,” Odee says. “It’s going to be revived.”
