Indigenuity: Aretha Brown On Her Debut Solo Exhibition 'Born Romantic'
Naarm-based artist and Gumbaynggirr woman Aretha Brown, joins Krystal ahead of her solo debut exhibition at Abbotsford Convent, "Born Romantic".
Showing up to her first week of art school with 10 litres of black paint and 10 litres of white paint, Aretha found her groove painting high-contrast murals and street art inspired by all the Aboriginal women who have been making public art for over 65,000 years.
Aretha founded the **Kiss My Art Collective to champion young women and non-binary artists to create large-scale public murals. Over 65 murals have been displayed in Australia and abroad, and her collaborations with musicians like Kneecap advocate for Indigenous languages and rights.
See "Born Romantic" at Abbotsford Convent until 4 October.
