How to Prevent Cycling Deaths on The Grapevine

Cycling deaths have doubled in the past year and are currently well above the average. With decreased speed limits and more bike lanes than ever, what’s the deal? Ahead of Ride2Work Day, Kulja speaks to RMIT Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Justice Peter Chambers, and PhD student in Law at University of Melbourne Tom Andrews. Aside from their legal experience, both are cyclists and have experienced collisions, even in bike lanes. As they explain, cyclist deaths will not decrease through legislation but rather through cultural change and upturning the sense of ‘righteous indignation’ motorists feel towards cyclists.
