How ‘The Legend of Queen Kong’ is Taking Accessible Theatre to the Cosmos
Know any stories about a part-rock, part-ape immortal cosmic being? What about a story that starts on part two? That’s just the type of boundary pushing The Legend of Queen Kong Episode II: Queen Kong in Outer Space has under its belt. Lead star Sarah Ward (aka Yana Alana) and Cerise Howard (of The HOMOsapiens, who provide the live soundtrack) join Ben Eltham on Uncommon Sense to discuss the challenging task of being independent artists and having to organise a show of such cosmic enormity. The pair also touches on the show’s inclusivity, not just for LGBTQIA+ audiences, but also for people with low vision and/or are hard of hearing – and how Auslan, subtitles, imagery and bass vibrations can be used to broaden accessibility.
