Get Down: Award-Winning Producer Plutonic Lab Talks Soulful New EP
Award-winning Melbourne producer Leigh Ryan, AKA Plutonic Lab, stops by Get Down to chat with Chris Gill about his new EP The New Ruins. A prolific producer, Pluto (as he’s sometimes known) is a legend of Australian hip-hop, and most recently made waves with a 2020 APRA Music Award for “Most Performed Urban Work” for his production on Hilltop Hoods’ smash hit “Leave Me Lonely”.
The New Ruins EP is built on Pluto’s deep love of hip-hop, bringing together some of Australia’s finest singers and emcees – Nardeen, Ratu Da Cheef, Natalie Slade and Sunny Reyne, to name a few – for an exploration of modern soul music. Chris and Pluto cover a range of topics, from the perspective of producing in lockdown through to working with Sunny Reyne, the niece of Aussie rock icon James Reyne.
