From Painter to Hip Hop Artist: Newcomer Pookie on The Rap

Up and coming producer and MC Pookie joins The Rap for a chat about her artistic ambitions and how she got into music. Pookie explores the many dimensions of hip hop and RnB, but started off her artistic career as a painter. After hitting a huge block, she found that she just couldn’t paint anymore. She started working a job she enjoyed but stumbled across GarageBand in between shifts and started playing around with music to relax. She says that floated into the music world after being exposed to a variety of incredible musicians and gave up her day job. Pookie has been working through the Box Hill TAFE hip hop course, but was at times the only girl in the class. She says this was hard to deal with at times, but that she likes to takes on big issues with a certain lightness, understanding the seriousness but not letting it burden her or her music.
