Dr Hannah McCann Joins Queer View Mirror
In the cafe at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), there’s an art installation entitled Boudoir Bablyon, created by Adam Nathaniel Furman and Sibling Architecture. Dr Hannah McCann (Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of Melbourne) chats to Queer View Mirror about an essay she wrote in response to this artwork, published in the companion guide to the NGV Triennial exhibition.
Drawing on queer theory and the history of the term “queer”, Hannah discusses how we can understand queerness and would it would mean to see queerly. Of the artwork, she says that “it’s queering us” just by being in the space.
